Brandon's
Story

From the Kitchen to the Soil

Every great idea starts with a moment of noticing something others walk past. For Brandon, that moment came at the end of a sushi shift, watching trays of perfectly good food, and valuable fish scraps, get tossed in the trash, night after night. Instead of accepting waste as the cost of doing business, he started taking it home.

What began as a simple act of salvage quickly became something bigger. A month of research led him to bokashi - a fermented food waste method that breaks down organic matter nearly three times faster than traditional composting. It worked. And it worked well. But the fish scraps were a different story, so Brandon separated them out and discovered a Korean Natural Farming technique for crafting fish amino acids - a potent, living soil input that most gardeners have never heard of.

That discovery cracked open a whole philosophy. The deeper Brandon dove into Korean Natural Farming, the more he found: a complete system of growing that works with nature's own rhythms rather than overriding them. He began farming himself, putting the practices to work in real soil. Over many years he layered in formal study - classes with natural farming teachers, and continuing education through the OSU Master Gardener program - until the student had quietly, methodically, become the teacher.

That's what Cultured Earth is. A mission born from a cutting board and a compost pile. Brandon shows up in three roles at once: always a student, always a teacher, always a practitioner in the soil.
